When a 17-year-old girl moves from The Netherlands to Norway summer of 2021, and lived at school, practically alone, without knowing the language. Her mother taught this was a good idea since they spent 9 years living on the poverty line. She grew up being poor in a rich western country, and her mother knew that in Norway you get better help.
It is not easy for her to go to school since she has extra challenges due to her autism and dyscalculia. After 6 months she was taken in by child protection services. Around this time she also meets people of her own kind, with whom she can speak the same language. A big release for her.
After 4 months, 3 times moving from one youth facility to another, she chose to step out of youth care, she turned 18 by this time. As she felt it didn't make her better. In fact, it only made her even more depressed. She started working at a restaurant every weekend to have at least a minor income. The NAV (Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration) denied her application for social help.
This book is written by an autistic and dyscalculic person itself. This book is a mix of autobiography (based on big lines of their own experience) and fiction.
